I’m just posting this here because I always forget the shortcut keys for XP; and I need it more than ever now.
List of the keyboard shortcuts that are available in Windows XP
My last two weeks have been nothing but resumes, interviews, writing samples, and hours in front of a computer screen. It looks like I have a new side gig that’s going to be pretty interesting. I’ll fill the holes in when it starts rolling, but just know that I’m excited about it.
I’ve also been taking Rita into lab for midnight ninja raids. For those of you who don’t know, my girlfriend Rita is working on a doctorate in molecular cell biology at Wash U. Since most med schools are built in semi dodgy neighborhoods I always escort her to lab if she has to check any experiments late at night.
Spent a couple of hours tonight doing some basic webspace maintenance and blog cleanup. All the red was giving me a headache so we’re shooting for cooler colors again. The new masthead is a blow-out illustration of a 1908 Colt pistol from an old manual. It’s got a nice Phillipe Starck feel to it, I think.
Well lookie what we’ve found in one of Microsoft’s CSS files.
/* fix for the IE 1px-off margin error */
* html .StupidIEMarginHack
{
margin-right: 1px;

Seems like even the Microsoft web developers know that they’re dealing with a broken product! Brought to you by the Opera browser and ch1×0r.
So I know that everyone has seen the twelve dozen ads I’ve been goofing around with lately. They’re annoying, tacky, and gaudy. I know that people look at them and think “What a jerk,” but I promise that there’s a reason.
A couple of months ago I realized that I didn’t know how internet advertising worked. With Google AdSense being so prevelant I decided to jump in and check it out. AdSense, Adbright, Linkshare, etc etc. I’ve signed up with everyone, and I’ve slowly been checking out how the backend works in this mysterious part of the internet. My friend StoneTable is a heavy hitter in the internet advertising world, and he’s been explaining some of the more nebulous and esoteric parts to me.
Cool? Not really. Interesting? You’d better believe it. It amazes me how these systems work together, and at the same time work against each other. If anyone can reccomend a good book on the subject I would love to give it a read.
I registered a bunch of domain names this week. I was just needing a couple more names to use for projects, and I hate digging through multiple directories to get where I need to go. So, in no particular order here are my new domain names:
I think that they could be interesting conceptually, but the internet execution isn’t my strong point. “You Sir are no Bobby Kennedy.” I need a couple of polished ideas to make the concepts flow into finished. Honestly, what else am I going to do while I’m stuck with this insomnia?
Installed Gallery2 as an embedded part of Wordpress. The gallery is fine, but posting is goofed up.
It’s pretty broken out of the box. Don’t expect post images to work for a couple of days.
Man, I just installed the new Opera build, and it’s the fastest web browser I’ve ever seen. The company recently opened up their software and made it free, so I thought that I’d give it a try.
I used an early version years ago, and it has definitly come a long way. Good job, guys!
